Warm Ghost – Open The Wormhole In Your Heart

Warm Ghost is a Brooklyn-based electronic band composed by Paul Duncan and Oliver Chapoy. In generally I don't like very much the electronic music but this project is really good. When you check their other songs like "Claws Overhead" or "Ultimate Satisfaction" you can easily virtually move to a sound universe where the arrangement of 'cold wave synths, low frequencies, smart chord changes, minor scale drones, heartfelt lyrics, and infectious hooks' (cf. Adam Wills citation in Heaven's Adam) makes you remember some melodies of the 80's new wave, the synth pop from OMD or Depeche Mode.

Clare Maguire - The Last Dance (but not the last song !)

I told you few months ago on this blog
(http://zestfullyblog.blogspot.com/2010/10/clare-maguire-aint-nobody.html) that her voice is really amazing. An emotive and powerful voice, followed by deep and contemporary sounds. Today her voice, her songs and her videos are almost everywhere on the net and we can't no more wait to listen her debut album Light After Dark (released by Polydor next February 28th). She won the Q Award 2010 (Next Big Thing), she has been announced as 5th place in the "BBC Sound of 2011" and I hope this is the beginning of a successful year for this atypical artist who wrote her first song at seven years old. Now, 17 years later, "Hope There's Someone" reminds me the strength of Annie Lennox's voice, the first single "Ain't Nobody" transports me to Irish (or Celtic ?) lands, "You're Electric" from the Let's Begin EP it's a very well done pop song that makes me want to get up, leave the computer and dance with my beauty, and the second single "The Last Dance" it's, no doubt about it, it's all about emotion... By the way, I like also the burlesque version of Clare Maguire...

Je viens de découvrir cette Auteure-Compositrice Interprète et Productrice québécoise qui a déjà un bagage musicale pas du tout négligeable avec 3 albums en studio et un album de Country-Rock prévu pour 2011 d'après son site http://www.andreewatters.com.

Si vous ne la connaissez pas encore, vous serez sans doute plus séduit par son dernièr album que par ses débuts. Certes, son troisième album Minuit semble plus mure, plus profond et réfléchi que les deux premiers; mais je ne peux que saluer la fougue et l’énergie du premier album avec des chansons teenager comme Dépendre de toi et Si exceptionnel qui donnent lieu à un album AW très Pop-Rock.

Histoire de trouver le bon équilibre entre la dynamique rockeuse et les ballades intenses, humaines et émotives, je vous propose deux chansons qui décrivent parfaitement cette artiste francophone dont on entendra surement parler en 2011.

Clare Maguire - Ain't Nobody

There're not too much information about her on the web (nevertheless you can check an exclusive BBC interview here). I checked the teaser video of her first single, Ain't Nobody, out on October 18th, and I was literally struck by the intensity of her voice... A powerful ballad voice ! Her debut album, Light After Dark, will released in February 2011 (produced by Fraser T. Smith).

Metric, the right musical measure...

Metric is a Canadian indie pop rock band led by singer-songwriter Emily Haines. Their music is somewhere between the new wave tendency and modern dance rock. Originally formed in Toronto, the band has also, at various times, been based in Montreal, London, New York City and Los Angeles. Along with Haines (who plays the synthesizer and guitar), Metric is completed with guitarist James Shaw (who also plays the theremin), bassist Josh Winstead and drummer Joules Scott-Key.

Despite the fact that they have not been highly publicized (except in recent times thanks to their song Eclipse  (All yours) for the soundtrack of the film Eclipse of the Twilight series), Metric has already a completed musical history :

Gayngs - Relayted

Gayngs are an indie band from Minneapolis. Founded by producer Ryan Olson, their debut album Relayted features 23 musicians – members of a variety of Minneapolis bands including Solid Gold, Megafaun, Lookbook, Leisure Birds, Rhymesayers (rapper POS), the Rosebuds, Bon Iver – Mike Noyce appears here on guitar and vocals, while Justin Vernon lends his sweet falsetto to a couple of tracks.

Their first album, Relayted, was released by Jagjaguwar and receives positive reviews for its unique vocal stylings, a 1980s soft rock-inspired sound and a retro-but-contemporary sound. The Guardian called the album "a triumph" and listed it as "the album of the year". Stereogum placed Gayngs in the 40 best new bands in 2010.
